Maria Morgan and Keith Field were the presenters of the 1970s childrens TV show ‘A Handful of Songs’.
“The idea behind the TV programme a handful of songs was to have a Top of the Pops for under sevens. This way we imagined we would get a top 100 of favourite nursery rhymes and small children’s songs. What a amazed us over the years was the number of current top pop favourites the children wanted Keith and Maria to sing for them.
“We expected The Yellow Submarine, How Much Is That Doggy in the Window and all the Wombles of course, what we didn’t expect were requests for some of the very sophisticated songs to be found in and out of the pop charts – Avenues and Alleyways, Cracklin’ Rosie, Cecilia, Make It with You and Ride a White Swan are just a few of the surprise requests we received, and as all the requests have to be in the form of a painting, some of the results were pretty hilarious.
