Short existed UK band with one important album, where they played mix of progressive rock & white blues rock.
THE AWFUL DISCLOSURES OF MARIA MONK features 13 tracks by quirky progressive U.K. blues rocker Woody Kern and includes the tracks "Biography," Blues Keep Falling," and "Uncle John." Full title - Awful Disclosures of Maria Monk. Note Roaming around the borders of psych, prog & British blues, Woody Kern recorded this long-lost 1969 album - never before released on CD. It featured the talents of future Roxy Music bassist Rik Kenton & multi-instrumentalist John Sanderson, & displayed a verve & vision which deserved a better fate than decades of indifference. This long-overdue reissue, which includes their ultra-rare single mixes, finally sets the record straight. Includes two bonus tracks, 'Biography' (Mono Single Version) & 'Tell You I'm Gone' (Mono Single Version). Originally released on Pye Records NSPL (18273). Includes liner notes David Wells, John Peel. Woody Kern includes: John Sanderson, Rik Kenton. This group disbanded in 1969.

The Poets - Scotland's No. 1 Group

YOUR REQUEST

&

FLAC|CUE\270MB

Although they only released half a dozen singles, these were enough to firmly establish the Poets' status as the best Scottish rock group of the mid-'60s. It's true that this is akin to being a big fish in a small pond -- not many Scottish bands recorded in the 1960s, and not many of them were at all notable. But that shouldn't detract from the genuinely high quality of their records, which still remain known only to a relatively small band of collectors.

The Glasgow group differed from most other Scottish combos of the time in that they concentrated almost exclusively on original material, which alternated between mournful, almost fey ballads and storming mod rockers. Critics have compared the melodic, minor feel of much of their work to the Zombies... Read More...

For most purposes, this is a fine and definitive overview of the output of the band that was indeed Scotland's number one group in the 1960s, in quality if not commercial success. Both sides of all six of the Poets' 1964-1967 singles are here, as well as no less than 11 demos that were not released at the time. One flaw worth noting is that the singles are not mastered from the best possible tapes; however, the difference in fidelity between this and a compilation from more, shall we say, above-the-board sources is so minimal as to be almost meaningless. Fans of the Poets (and they are more numerous than one might suppose) might well already have another, quite similar compilation, In Your Tower, which includes much but not all of the contents from Scotland's No. 1 Group. So, how does one choose? Well, that's a tough one. Each disc has the essential core of the band's discography: both sides of those half-dozen singles. Each also has the quite good, if a little scratchy and muffled, 1965 demos "I'll Keep My Pride" and "It's So Different Now." In Your Tower, however, does have some items not on Scotland's No. 1 Group, and although some of those are pretty dispensable, two are noteworthy: the hypnotic George Gallacher post-Poets track "Dawn," and the mysterious unreleased late-'60s song "Never Thought She Would." Scotland's No. 1 Group, however, has no less than nine 1963-1964 demos not on the other compilation, and although their fidelity veers from substandard to downright treacherous, these include some very good originals: the folk-rockish "Love Is Fading Away," the doomy pseudo-Merseybeat of "This Woman Mine," and the chipper "With You By Me" (the last two of these songs are each presented in two different versions). Those interested enough in the Poets in the first place to want a compilation should throw in the towel and get both. It's still frustrating that the optimum Poets anthology -- which would include all the singles from the master tapes, everything from these two discs, and other unreleased tracks rumored to exist in the vaults -- has yet to be assembled.

THE BEES - Octopus 2007

The Bees (known in United States as A Band of Bees) are an English band from Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. Although their sound is generally classified as indie rock or psychedelic music, the band have a colourful range of styles and influences, such as 1960s garage rock, country, reggae and jazz.

Octopus is the third album from British band The Bees, released on March 26, 2007. Continuing in the vein of the band's previous two albums, Sunshine Hit Me and Free the Bees, by recording their music in different areas, Octopus was self-produced in the band's own basement studio, The Steam Rooms, on the Isle of Wight. The style of the record is said to be a mix of both the sounds of its preceding two albums.

A high-rip version of Octopus was leaked in its entirety in December 2006, three months before its scheduled release. The leak also led to the album's initial release date of March 19 being moved up a week later. Fortunately, despite these issues, the album was generally well-received by fans and critics alike, with some claiming it to be the band's best record to date. [1]

The CD version of Octopus is also an enhanced disc, which enables owners of the album to join The Bees' mailing list and get access to exclusive free content, including a downloadable version of the "Who Cares What The Question Is?" music video.

Tony Sheridan - Just A Little Bit

From JancY
***

****

Тони Шеридан (Tony Sheridan), полное имя Энтони Эсмонд Шеридан Макгиннити (Anthony Esmond Sheridan McGinnity) из городка Норидж (графство Норфолк) - английский певец и гитарист, исполнитель раннего рок-н-ролла, вошедший в историю благодаря синглу "My Bonnie"/"The Saints", в записи которого приняли участие тогда ещё практически никому не известные The Beatles. Vince Taylor and the Playboys, «My Bonnie»«The Saints» на обороте), выпущенный как сингл Tony Sheridan And The Beat Brothers (в данном случае речь идёт о The Beatles), разошёлся 100-тысячным тиражом и вошёл в германский Top 5. В дальнейшем The Beat Brothers никакого отношения к The Beatles не имеют.

Tony Sheridan - My Bonnie (Tony Sheridan and Beat Brothers)

from JANCY

***
With his 1961 recording of "My Bonnie," Tony Sheridan forever secured rock & roll immortality; while the song was certainly a respectable hit during its heyday, its place in music history is instead assured as the first studio session to feature the Beatles. Anthony Sheridan McGinnity was born in Norwich, England on May 21, 1940; he formed his first band, the Saints, at the age of 15 before relocating to London a few years later. In 1959, he joined Vince Taylor and the Playboys, one of the most popular of the many British groups which rose to fame on the decadent Hamburg, Germany club scene; over time, the band evolved into a new unit called the Beat Brothers, originally featuring Sheridan on vocals and guitar backed by guitarists Ken Packwood and Rick Richards, bassist Colin Melander, keyboardist Ian Hines and drummer Jimmy Doyle.

The Beat Brothers' lineup was notoriously nebulous, and among the various musicians which briefly passed through their ranks were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Pete Best; it was this early incarnation of the Beatles which backed Sheridan in mid-1961 on at least three tracks -- "My Bonnie," "The Saints" and "Why (Can't You Love Me Again)." (Much of the information about the sessions remain murky, based on memory and conjecture; the true circumstances will likely never be definitively determined, although it is also widely agreed that the same date generated "Ain't She Sweet," sung by Lennon, as well as the instrumental "Cry for a Shadow.") "My Bonnie" sold some 100,000 copies and reached the West German Top Five; it was creditied to Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers as a result of label fears that "Beatles" bore too much similarity to the German word "peedles" -- slang for the male organ.

In April 1962, the Beatles also joined Sheridan for a performance at the Hamburg Star Club; two more tracks, "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Swanee River," are believed to have been recorded at that time. (Again, conclusive proof is lacking.) By this time, Sheridan was fronting a new group called the Tony Sheridan Quartet; at one point, their ranks included drummer (and future Beatle) Ringo Starr. By 1964, Sheridan had joined the Bobb Patrick Big Six, but by now the Hamburg beat craze was dying; at that juncture he journeyed to Vietnam to play U.S. army bases. When he returned to Hamburg in 1968, he remained a cult hero, and played a number of triumphant live dates before gradually retiring from show business. Years later Sheridan converted to the Sannyasin religion, rechristening himself Swami Probhu Sharan and settling in Germany -- a footnote in rock history, to be sure, but an important and enduring one.

Knock Out was the most discussed issue at the 1979 Berlin Radio Show. Never before had drums been recorded with such impulsive power.

Here, High-End Analogue Remastering takes the direct path, so to speak, and uses the direct cut itself as master. Recorded from the original copies of the Jeton D2D LPs on a killer Clearaudio Master Reference turntable with a Master TQ-I tonearm and Insider Reference Cartridge to tape, then remastered to LP!
