The Rattles - Remember Finale Ligure (1967)

Curious, lumpy soul-rock from the mid-'60s. The Rattles could play the style with fair competence, but their odd deep-throated vocals lived up to the Teutonic stereotype of leaden humorlessness, on both covers of tunes by Sam Cooke, Sam & Dave, and Don Covay and originals that approximated the same style. The CD reissue on Repertoire adds 11 additional tracks from 1966-67, usually in the same vein, from singles and compilation LPs.
