The Parade - The
Parade 1968
Excellent
sunshine-pop!! If we could take "The Radio Song", a Beach Boys
pastiche (more a Dolly Sheep of "I Hear Music"), it would be one of
the loveliest albums of the genre. In fact, the rest of the songs have a
personal and distinctive mark very difficult to carve on a period of intense
musical creativity (1966-1969). The Parade were Murray MacLeod, Jerry Riopelle
and Smokey Roberds, a trio of musicians/actors/producers based on L.A. and they
got their 15 minutes of fame through the 1967 hit "Sunshine Girl",
the sunniest of all sunnier sunny tracks of sunshine pop. Sometimes they recall
The Mystic Astrological Crystal Band, other times the Peter Pan's bunch of The
Ballroom/The Millenium/Sagittarius acts. Appart the song mentioned above, this
album album kept the flavour intact like a vintage wine founded on grandpa's
country house. Cherry Red (one of the best labels working on there for sure!!)
released in 2008 the compilation "Sunshine Girl: The Complete
recordings", including the full album plus bonus tracks. A must for all
the period fans!!
