'Foreign language' records have been popular since the very birth of recorded sound, while many have also gone on to become unexpected international hits.

This eclectic, off-the-wall 28-track compilation presents twenty-eight international hit records, sung variously in French, German, Italian and Spanish, most of which made the US and/or UK charts.

The sides by Edith Piaf, Lolita, Petula Clark, Jacques Brel, Les Compagnons De La Chanson, Ivo Robić and Charles Trenet are the original versions of songs which would go on to become English language hits, when covered by Brits or Americans.

Conversely, it also includes UK and US artists like Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Johnny Cash, Helen Shapiro, Gene Pitney, The Springfields and Jay & The Americans, singing Italian or German language versions of their own hits.

This is a genuinely 'different' compilation, and it almost goes without saying that a great many of these sides are as rare as hens' teeth!
