"Bravour, talent and innovation gave our country a musical face. Actually we already knew it, but what a great groups our country was then. Ultimately, the ten bands selected here are: The Motions, The Cats, Sandy Coast, Outsiders, Golden Earrings, Kayak, The Shoes, Earth And Fire, Q65 and Cuby + Blizzards. That's quite a list. Each group gets a full CD playing time. That must have been a hell of a job for the compiler. How do you select roughly the 20 best tracks and what are the guidelines? The hits are an easy guideline for bands such as The Shoes, Earth And Fire, The Cats and Golden Earrings.

But the beautifully indicated release date and hit listings on the back make you realize that other acts also scored solidly in the Dutch charts. Then you get to work with the time span. A band like Earth And Fire achieved hits until the 80s. In terms of sound, that gives quite a big aural difference between the first track Seasons (70) and the last track Love Is An Ocean (82). An album like this perfectly charts the musical development of each group. A band such as The Motions gained their fame within four years, while Golden Earrings opted for the first period between 1965 and 1969. The period before their name change. Not with Sandy Coast and the aforementioned Earth And Fire. That in itself is also understandable. The real fans will prefer to go back to the original albums of the bands, but with this compilation of 10 CDs a solid historical part of the early days of Dutch pop music is covered."
