The Very Best Of Lemon Popsicle (3 CD Set)

Lemon Popsicle is the title of a 1968 Israeli film that was so popular it spawned eight sequels over the next two decades. These films drew heavily on the pre-Beatles pop and rock & roll of the late '50s and early '60s, so One Day's 2014 compilation The Very Best of Lemon Popsicle can be enjoyed by listeners who have never heard of the films: they're simply three discs of great early rock & roll and bobby-soxed pop. At 75 tracks, this covers a considerable amount of ground and it contains songs that are quite familiar -- Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally," Bruce Channel's "Hey Baby," Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock," the Coasters' "Yakety Sax" -- along with some fun obscurities that wind up evoking the time a little bit easier than the classics. It can be fun to listen to straight through but it's also nice to cherry-pick, either finding those obscurities or revisiting the popular tunes you know by heart.

Enjoy
