On discogs.com the album is called "Glenn Shorrock • Beeb Birtles • Graham Goble - Little River Band - Beginnings". Truth with a note - On the release is not mentioned which track is from Axiom, Mississippi or Allison Gros. Allison Gros is not even mentioned on the release liner notes. So it’s quite possible to interpret its name as “Axiom & Mississippi & Alison Gros - Beginnings”

До этого релиза треки первой австралийской супер-группы Axiom издавались в EP "The Axiom Hits" (1970), LP "Fools Gold" (1970), LP "If Only" (1971), а потом случился большой перерыв и только в 2000 г., как я узнал сейчас, появился СD-сборник Little River Band с песнями Axiom, Mississippi и Alison Gros (в составе которых играли музыканты Little River Band - Glenn Shorrock, Beeb Birtles и Graham Goble). Но этим дело не ограничилось: в 2004 г. поклонники Axiom получили возможность обзавестись сборником "The Axiom Archive", включившим все треки с обеих грампластинок, а также концертника "Same Old Country Song" и сингла дуэта Brian Cadd & Don Mudie 1971 года "Show Me The Way / Rolling And Tumbling Down".

Он сделал себе имя ещё в середине 60-х гг. в группе The Twilights, звучавшей в духе The Beatles. Когда группа распалась в 1969 г., Шоррок стал солистом Axiom, чья песня "A Little Ray of Sunshine" до сих пор считается чуть ли не основным продуктом австралийского классического рока. Позднее, как считаю я, он блистательно проявил себя в альбоме Little River Band "Get Lucky" (1990), заставив вновь вспомнить о группе.
Биб Бёртлз из тех же Little River Band был бас-гитаристом The Zoot. После расформирования коллектива он прошёл прослушивание на роль басиста в Little River Band, но сразу же оказался на передовой позиции вместе с Грэмом Гоблом. ReplyDeleteGlenn Shorrock (lead vocalist of several Little River Band lineups) always caught my attention. The guy had excellent vocals and composed excellent songs. He made a name for himself back in the mid-60s. in the group The Twilights, which sounded in the spirit of The Beatles. When the band split in 1969, Shorrock became the lead singer of Axiom, whose song "A Little Ray of Sunshine" is still considered a staple of Australian classic rock. Later, in my opinion, he showed himself brilliantly in the Little River Band album "Get Lucky" (1990), making us remember the group again.
Bib Birtles from the same Little River Band was the bass player for The Zoot. After the band disbanded, he auditioned for the role of bassist in the Little River Band, but immediately found himself in a frontline position with Graham Goble. I noticed that Glenn Wheatley was the bassist of another Australian band, perhaps the most legendary, Masters Apprentices. The group, called Mississippi, originated from an Adelaide folk-rock group called Alison Gros, a trio consisting of Graham Goble, Russ Johnson and John Mauer. In 1970, Alison Gros recorded one single ("Naturally / Would You Really Have To Go?") on the Gamba label. They then moved to Melbourne and recorded a couple more singles there in 1971. In 1972, Alison Gros changed its name to Mississippi. In September 1972, they recorded and released an untitled album, which remained the only one. Their discography was expanded in 1974 with the EP "Will I". In 1972-1975 The group released five singles.
Glenn Shorrock later recalled: "I'd had enough of England for five years... I planned to go back to Australia and take everything I could with me. I thought I'd come back and be an agent or a manager or something like that." sort of. But out of the blue, I got a call from Bib Birtles. I knew him from The Zoot in the '60s. I told Bib, “But man, I'm coming home.” He said, “Yeah, we heard that and we want you to headed the new group that we have." And I answered him: "I don't think so, mate, I've had enough," but nevertheless I went to their apartment. ... And there were Graham Goble and Beebe, and Derek Pellici, and Glenn Whitley. We played the songs and sang, and they sounded natural; everything came together with ease. And I thought to myself, this sounds good. Whitley said, “We have a chance. It's good that we have a good track record in Australia "... And so we all met in Melbourne in January 1975."
