For as long as there have been musical recordings, we have known songs about the strong, negative feelings that move us and define our lives. Early blues recordings or old timey music often have loneliness, desperation, the blows of fate - but also hope and dreams as their theme. Tragic experiences such as abandonment, defeats and setbacks, death and loneliness have been made the theme by writers and musicians at all times. 

Bear Family's producer Nico Feuerbach has dealt with the topic and sensitively compiled a collection of songs on the subject. His concept is not limited to a random stringing together of best known recordings on this topic; we at Bear Family always have an eye on those songs and those musicians who are not at the front of the main stage. We also try to bring attention to those whose songs and music may be less popular but are by no means less worth listening to.

Times are difficult. Maybe our compilation 'Destination: Lonely Street' with songs full of feeling can provide a little comfort and hope.

The CD starts and ends with a version of Prehistoric Plateau. What do both versions have in common? English composer Arthur Billingsley is involved as a musician on both recordings. He was a member of the iconic 1980s band, The Blubbery Hellbellies, which recorded the original in rockabilly style. In 2010, he covered himself as Big Art Peters. Both tracks are highlights on this compilation. In addition, there are a lot of little-known artists from the 1950s and '60s like The Pre-Historics, Terry Wayne, and The Majestics, most of their songs appearing here on CD for the first time. Rare recordings like the 1966 movie trailer 'One Million Years BC', the 'Flintstones' theme tune and the 1977 TV highlight 'Captain Caveman And The Teen Angels' round out the program.

This CD deserves special attention because it contains  historical records...

One small step for a man, one big step for mankind!

To celebrate the 50th anni-versary of the first manned moon landing on July 20, 1969, Bear Family brings this Moon-O-Rama Edition!

Filled with musical rarities and historical sound docu-ments, the focus here is on the beginnings, the idea of a moon landing, John F. Kennedy's 1962 announcement, and the reactions of the music business to it.

The 34 tracks, some of which are extremely hard to get, reflect the adventurous, sometimes almost naive approach to the theme of the moon landing, against the background of the competition between the USA and the USSR from the 1950s onwards! 

It contains interesting audio documents, like the announcement of the US President John F. Kennedy in September 1962, as well as the famous words by astronaut Neil Armstrong on July 20, 1969!

Extremely rare recordings can be heard, like 'Rocket To The Moon' by Johnny Kay from Belgium, or Glenn Willings' 'Race To Space'!

Also included are famous songs that take up the theme rather smilingly, such as Anita O'Day's 'Fly Me To The Moon' and 'The Rocket Man' with the Russian melody from the Spotnicks!

In addition there are some orchestral recordings that express the feeling of a flight to the moon, like the orchestra of Les Baxter with 'Lunar Rhapsody'!
