Swinging London The Accidental Genius Of Saga Records 1968-70

Sub-subtitled The Accidental Genius Of Saga Records 1968-70, this is a catalogue-digging collection which does exactly what it says.

After years of concentrating on typical brass-band and crummy folkie boot-fair fare, the ‘swinging’ London scene brought with it a whole new raft of fads worth reflecting in Saga’s wire racks at Woolies. These soft rock smashes, hard hippy trips, loungecore grooves and psych wig-outs are sometimes almost impossible to distinguish from the real thing. Best of the lot are the Five Day Week Straw People’s freakouts featuring the singer/guitarist from cracking mod-pop act The Attack, and Alan Hawkshaw himself appearing on the Graham Walker Sound’s magnificent Theme From The Big Match. You’ll love the weird, doomy Europop of The Blackbirds and the bloke talking in tongues over Scheherazade.

  1. Hi!

Already have this collection but your description of Saga recs. explains why it is NOT a good comp. of "Swinging London"! Do NOT judge this by the Groovy cover Art.
