The Lincoln Park Zoo was originally called the Classic VI and changed its name in 1967. The band members included Denny Murray (drums and percussion), Tommy Murray (Trumpet and lead singer), Wayne Nykodem (guitar), Arvydas (Arvy) Tumosa (Bass guitar) and Bob Walicki (Saxophone). The Zoo was one of the first Chicago bands to use brass. Everyone in the group had strong musical backgrounds and training. The Zoo's popularity was driven by unique vocals and the use of brass writing creative arrangements of cover material. As the Zoo gained more studio experience, group members began writing original material. The original material and Tommy Murray's unique voice caught the attention of several music producers including Carl Bonafede. Carl invested his time and money to record and promote the group over several years. The Zoo and Tommy Murray recorded a number of tunes written by others and members of the Zoo that received some attention and air play on the radio. The Zoo played all over the country at colleges, universities and clubs, and opened concerts for several national acts. The Zoo transformed into a nine-piece group for a short period and disbanded in late 1970.
