VA - Miracles - The Songwriting Legacy Of Philip Springer 1961-1968 (2016) @ 320


Philip Springer, songwriter and composer, hits include "Santa Baby", "Moonlight Gambler", "All Cried Out", and "The Next Time". Among his collaborators are E.Y. Harburg, Carolyn Leigh, Joan Javits, Buddy Kaye, Irwin Levine, Richard Adler, Bob Hilliard, Roy Alfred and Fred Ebb.

Fred Ebb was a student of his, the first song they wrote together "I Never Loved Him Anyhow" was sung by Carmen McRae. Another song Ebb wrote with Springer was “Heartbroken” (1953), which was recorded by Judy Garland.

In 1995, the album A Song Floating (1994 New York Cast Recording) was released on Original Cast Records. This Off-Off-Broadway Production was a musical review of the great songs of Phil Springer and featured lyrics from many of his numerous collaborators. The title song of the album expresses Phil's philosophy of life ... that when he leaves this planet, he wants a song left floating in the air to reach friends he never knew. This album contains 24 of Phil's thousand-plus output of songs.
