Rita Pavone - Best And Rare (1998) @ Flac

Rita Pavone is an Italian singer and actress, a star of the 1960s. She was born on August 23, 1945, in Turin.

She began her career performing at student parties and in Turin clubs (Apollo Danze, La Serenella, La Perla, Hollywood Dance, Il Principe). There, she earned the nickname "Paul Anka in a skirt" because she often performed his songs.

Her career breakthrough came in 1962, when she won the vocal competition "Festival of the Unknowns" (Festa degli Sconosciuti) in Ariccia. This earned her first prize and a contract with RCA Italiana.

In 1963, her debut album, Rita Pavone, was released. It captured the singer's early style—pop with a rock 'n' roll edge and a hit-like melody. The hit single "La partita di pallone" ("The Ball Game") made her a national star at the age of 17. The recording "Cuore" ("Heart") sold a million copies and topped the Italian charts for nine weeks.

In 1964, Pavone achieved success in North America with the hit "Remember Me." Two albums were released in the US, one of which, "Small Wonder," reached the Top 30 of Billboard's best albums worldwide. From 1965 until 1970, she appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show.
