Canadian band originally from Montréal, Quebec established in early 60s. The band’s name was an homage to Hugh Hefner's magazine, and its fictional leader (portrayed as a stick figure with a top hat) was a reference to executive bigwigs lampooned in the magazine's cartoons. Already well-known in Ontario and Quebec, their national popularity exploded in 1965 with opening slots for tours by The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones occurring at the same time RCA Victor released a handful of the band's singles.
In 1966 they moved to Toronto and shortened their name to The Jaybees. Other name changes ensued, sometimes with minor lineup amendments: Peter And The Pipers in 1967 and The Carnival Connection in 1968. After the latter's release flopped due to changing tastes of the public the members went their separate ways.
