The Attacks - We Call It Attackology

"The ATTACKS had this record stamped as a souvenir of the beautiful time of making music for themselves and all their supporters. It doesn't want to and can't be a masterpiece, because the recording was made spontaneously and after a little thought.
Once upon a time there were five young people who not only had a hobby - school, but also played music. Every Saturday afternoon there was fresh, free, cheerful noise. The noise slowly developed into music, the five young people into a band. The birth of ATTACKS had arrived. There was something beautiful in store for the music world. After all: the parents doubted this; They heard the musical message, but they lacked faith! Because: Saturday after Saturday it blared, beat and swept through the cozy rooms of the Bourquin and Herberich families at “the loudest” level, created for everyone’s peace and relaxation.
Another rehearsal location had to be found. Rene Schmid¬lin's grandfather, Karl Schweizer, made his house, or rather his cellar, or his house cellar available. Now the cramming took place ironically and hard every Saturday afternoon, and even rehearsed all day long on school-free days, such as the school synod “festival”. The technical equipment left a lot to be desired for the time being, but “time comes, equipment comes,” the young people said to themselves, in German: “good (music) things take time.”
Meanwhile, word of THE ATTACKS had already spread throughout the country. The first engagement took place at the confirmation festival of the Andreas congregation in Bottminger Castle. In July 1965, the Young Citizens' Celebration followed in Binningen, at which the 20-year-old new citizens, among others. were introduced to citizenship through the cheerful sounds of the ATTACKS.
Do you know Piatti? The graphic designer and artist Piatti? He had the ATTACKS played in his house at a party for his daughter Sabine in August 1965. The poster he designed and gave to the band is held in high honor by the ATTACKS.
In between, the ATTACKS were worried about borrowed reverb equipment and drums. When both suddenly had to be returned to their owners, their “Book of the ATTACKS” said: Shocking news! - Gradually they can purchase a reverberator and drums. In the meantime, people played makeshift with equipment borrowed from someone else. In October 1965, the ATTACKS delighted those who wanted to dance at the St. Franziskus Bazaar in Riehen, and in November they attended a concert by the “Colleagues Shadows” in Basel. Conclusion: THE ATTACKS want to follow the demanding tracks (read notes) of the Shadows from now on. «Swiss Shadows!?
A great moment in the musical life of the ATTACKS was the commitment to the Atlantis Restaurant in Basel on New Year's Eve 1965. For those who are ignorant from outside: The Atlantis is alcohol-free and a regular high school bar (after school hours!) for Basel's youth. Primarily qualified and renowned bands play there. Atlantis can afford that because it's always busy.
In February 1966 (the engagements follow each other so suddenly that the interested reader is no longer in doubt about the ATTACKS!?) ATTACKS sounds echoed through the Wasser¬stelzen schoolhouse in Riehen. Rover and Altpfader had secured the band for their entertainment evening... and... once in May, singer Roger had to deal with a singing complex, or as they say when a talented singer suddenly speaks of "inability." But like many other inconsistencies that exist in a musical formation of a compulsory degree, this small dissonance was brilliantly eliminated by the ATTACKERS. Roger soon found enjoyment in singing again. In this little confusion, Joe, the band's bassist, was replaced by Alain because he was about to graduate.
The people of Riehen knew where they had to secure a smooth dance band. At the ATTACKS. In June 1966 they swept the Wasserstelzenschule again to great applause. (The ATTACKS swept, the Rieheners danced.) And on August 20th of the same year, the ATTACKS celebrated “on their own behalf” happy birthday to THE ATTACKS! The six young people commemorated their band's birthday in true togetherness and conviviality."
