Formed in Dallas, Texas, USA in 1965, and previously known as the Ken Daniel Combo. Kenny Daniel (vocals), Tommy Nichols (lead guitar), Paul Roach (keyboards), Lee Lightfoot (bass) and David Blackley (drums) completed three singles for their manager Mark Lee’s Mark label, prior to becoming a fixture at a local nightclub. Live At The Studio Club, which comprised of cover versions, including ‘Gloria’ (Them) and ‘All Day And All Of The Night’ (the Kinks), was intended solely as a promotional tool for the venue. A mere 500 copies were pressed, but the set quickly achieved legendary status, establishing the Kasuals’ name in Texas garage-band circles. Jerry Smith replaced Nichols for ‘Raindrops To Teardrops’ and ‘Journey To Tyme’, the latter of which was a superior pop/psychedelic original. However, the group began to fragment following ‘Sea Saw Ride’ (1967) and the following year Daniels was drafted into the armed forces. The remaining members redubbed themselves the Truth, but the new act fell apart following the release of ‘Chimes On 42nd Street’. In 1977, Mark Lee re-pressed Live At The Studio Club, inspiring Daniels and Smith to reform their group with Dan Green (guitar), Greg Daniels (bass) and Ron Mason (drums). However, neither subsequent albums, nor the EP The Kasuals Are Back, recaptured the fire of the original unit and the quintet was disbanded during the early 80s.
