In 1957 they released their 1st single Santa Margherita / Teen-Age Clementine and in 1958 they evolved into Dion & The Belmonts when Dion (3) joined the trio making them into a quartet. Around 1961 Dion went separates ways from the Belmonts and they signed on with Sabina Records, while Dion stayed with Laurie Records

The Elegants is an American doo-wop vocal group, that was started in 1958 by Vito Picone, Arthur Venosa, Frank Tardogno, Carmen Romano and James Moschella in South Beach, Staten Island, New York. Before their nursery rhyme inspired song, "Little Star", became a number one hit, the band usually performed informally under the boardwalk by their homes. "Little Star" was the only million seller for the group, and was written by Venosa and Picone. It spent 19 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100, earning gold disc status.

Formed in 1955 by Hank Medress. The original band included Neil Sedaka, but it was not until Medress reassembled the group in 1960, with brothers Phil and Mitch Margo and lead vocalist Jay Siegel, that they really hit the big time. By 1967 they had scored nine charting records (including the number one smash hit 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'), as well as having written, produced, and sung literally hundreds of recordings. The group's versatility reached its apex when they signed with Warner Bros where they recorded two albums 'It's A Happening World' and 'Intercourse'. The Marcels were a doo-wop group formed in 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with Cornelius Harp (lead), Fred Johnson (bass), Gene Bricker, Ron Mundy, and Richard Knauss. In 1961, Richard Knauss and Gene Bricker left and were replaced by Allen Johnson (brother of Fred) and Walt Maddox. Ron Mundy left the group soon after their departure.

In 1962, Cornelius Harp and Allen Johnson left, and were replaced by Richard Harris and William Herndon. A brief reunion of the original members took place in 1973 and the group made several recordings in 1975 with original lead vocalist Cornelius Harp. In 1961 "Blue Moon" sold a million copies and is featured in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. The Marcels were inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.

One of the earliest of all Motown groups The Miracles were formed at school in Detroit in 1955 as The Five Chimes. In 1956 they changed their name to The Matadors, adding Claudette Rogers to the line-up. They were spotted by Berry Gordy at an audition in late 1957 and in February 1958 changed their name to The Miracles. Their first release, 'Got A Job' b/w 'My Mama Done Told Me', was issued via the End label that same month. Another single on End followed, and then one on Chess and Motown, before the group finally found a home on Tamla where they had a string of hits and Smokey established himself as a key songwriter for the label throughout the 1960s

After the release of Fine, Fine Girl / Oh Baby in 1963 they disbanded when Willie Schofield got drafted and Eddie Floyd and Wilson Pickett weren't always available.

Robert West (2) manager of The Falcons refused to let his group die.

He took a group known as The Fabulous Playboys (who recorded on Daco, Apollo Records (2) and Contour (3) and were The Ramblers (26) on Federal Records (2)) and made them The Falcons.

Towards the end of the 60s into the 70s original members began to come back under the Falcons name.

by Jimmy Ricks and Warren Suttles.

They were one of the most successful and most influential vocal quartets of the period, and had several hits on the R&B chart in the late 1940s and early 1950

Jimmy Ricks R&B and Jazz singer. Though a deep bass singer, Ricks was the vocal lead of the R&B group The Ravens. Sang duet with LaVern Baker on "You're The Boss". At the time of his death in 1974 Ricks had recently begun a comeback as a singer with The Count Basie Orchestra.

Ernie Maresca Shout! Shout! 24 Titles 1962 

Ernie Maresca began his music career as a singer-songwriter with the doo-wop group "The Monterays" in 1957. Signed on Seville Records in 1958, they changed their name to The Desires (4). After Ernie Maresca had left, replaced by Don Jacabucci, later in the same year, they changed their name again for The Regents .

Later, as a solo artist, Maresca had a top 10 hit with "Shout Shout (Knock Yourself Out)", and also wrote songs such as The Regents (2)'s "Runaround", and collaborated with Dion DiMucci on a number of Dion (3)'s most successful releases.

The Mellow-Kings Tonite Tonite 17 Titles  1958-1960 

The Mello-Kings were an American doo-wop group, who became popular in the late 1950s with their song, "Tonite, Tonite" (1957).

The group consisted of brothers Jerry and Bob Scholl, Eddie Quinn, Neil Arena and Larry Esposito. The quintet was formed in 1956 at a high school in Mount Vernon, New York, United States, under the guidance of manager Dick Levister. Originally named the Mellotones, the group was signed to the Herald label.

"Tonite, Tonite" was written by Billy Myles, a staff composer for the label.The group was forced to change its name after the single's release, as another group had already claimed Mellotones.The record lasted more than ten weeks on the US pop charts.

In 1957 the groups recorded several more singles, including "The Chapel on the Hill" and "Baby Tell Me Why Why Why", which did not chart, and "Valerie", which became a New York regional hit.

They appeared in the film Sweet Beat (1959)
