Here Come the Girls, Vol. 4:
You Can Be Wrong About Boys Review by Jason Ankeny.
First, some housekeeping: what is actually volume four in the outstanding Here Comes the Girls series officially bears the confusing title You Can Be Wrong About Boys, Vol. 1 -- regardless, it's another stellar entry, returning to the Pye label vaults for 20 more girl group classics from the heyday of the British Invasion. Series standouts the Breakaways lead off with another should-have-been smash, "He Doesn't Love Me," while another favorite, "Polly Brown," delivers a remarkably Dionne Warwick-like turn on Pickettywitch's lovely "There He Goes." The 1966 Jan Panter obscurity "Scratch My Back," meanwhile, is a complete anomaly, distinguished by its fuzz-soaked guitar riff and nursery rhyme lyrical scheme; Barbara Ruskin's "Well How Does It Feel" could have served as the template for "I Got You, Babe," and on the wonderful "Pay You Back With Interest," Dana Gillespie's bold vocals eerily prefigure Chrissie Hynde. Terrific stuff throughout.
