Upon signing with Dot Records in 1969, Anita Kerr cut a series of increasingly sophisticated pop records heavily indebted to the sun-kissed A&M sound. Anita Kerr Presents Teresa, ostensibly a showcase for little-known vocalist Teresa Bennett, captures Kerr's production at its most daring and cosmopolitan, embracing elements of Baroque pop, blue-eyed soul, and jazz. Given her relative obscurity, it's easy to marginalize Bennett's contributions to the project, but her introspective vocals and impressionistic originals like "Strange," "Image," and "Early Dawn" are essential to the album's luminous beauty, Still, this is Kerr's baby, and she responds with ingenious interpretations of well-chosen hits like "Spooky," "I Started a Joke," and "I'll Never Fall in Love Again."
