"If you have any interest in the surf, hot-rod and hipster musical movements of this period, you'll know Gary Usher was churning out all kinds of pertinent material with the studio musicians known as "The Wrecking Crew" (see the movie if you can) and any number of pop groups and artists, sometimes using the same personnel under various names. He often recorded with some of them as a vocalist. This disc is informative. It's nicely (digitally) re-mastered in monaural. Sometimes a bit "dated" sounding, some of the material is still timely and may be appealing to you as pop music from this period goes.Chuck Girard's vocal work, as always, is notable for its excellence. When teamed with Joe Kelly (as Chuck & Joe) they came off as a hot blue-eyed soul duet. Joe's (amazing Irish tenor) voice on The Castells' "Tell Her If I Could" is great to hear as a lead even though you can usually pick him out in their other vocals too. Their cover of "Harlem Shuffle" still turns me on. My opinion? If you like that period in popular music and want to learn a bit about, " . . what ever happened to . . . ? This is one for your collection. . . and you'll probably like a few of the songs!"
